Corfu Day Trip from Saranda

5.063 Google reviewsDay trip from Saranda

Corfu is visible from every hotel balcony in Saranda and the crossing takes half an hour, which makes this the easiest country to add to an Albanian trip. The ferry goes from the Saranda port to Corfu Town and we handle the tickets, the passport control and the timings.

Experience & Highlights

  • Thirty-minute fast ferry across the strait
  • Corfu Old Town, a UNESCO Venetian quarter
  • The Old and New Fortresses and the Liston arcade
  • Paleokastritsa bays and the clifftop monastery
  • Passports and ferry tickets handled for you

Full Description

Corfu Town is a UNESCO site and looks nothing like Greece as most people picture it: tall Venetian houses in ochre and terracotta, narrow kantounia alleys, two enormous fortresses and a cricket pitch on the esplanade left behind by the British. We walk it with a local guide for about two hours.

The afternoon goes west to Paleokastritsa, where six small bays sit under a monastery on a wooded headland and the water is the clearest on the island. Swim, eat, and back across the strait on the evening boat.

Good to know

  • Bring your passport. An ID card is not enough: this is an external Schengen border and it is checked both ways.
  • Non-EU travellers should check whether they need a Schengen visa for Greece before booking. We cannot get you on the ferry without it.
  • Corfu is in the eurozone and one hour ahead of Albania. The ferry runs on Greek time.
  • Runs April through October. The crossing is occasionally cancelled in strong wind, with a full refund.

Good questions, honest answers

How long is the ferry from Saranda to Corfu?

Thirty minutes on the fast boat, about seventy on the slower car ferry. We use the fast one both ways. Add roughly twenty minutes each side for passport control, which we handle as a group.

Do I need a visa to go to Corfu from Albania?

Corfu is Greece, so it is the Schengen area and an external border. EU, UK, US, Canadian and Australian passport holders do not need a visa for a day visit. Many other nationalities do, and you need to sort it before you book because the ferry will not board you without it.

Is a day trip to Corfu enough time?

For the old town and one beach area, yes, which is what this is. You get two hours walking Corfu Town with a guide and about four hours at Paleokastritsa. Seeing the rest of the island needs a few days and a car.
