Day trips in Albania

For a half day, Kruja (40 minutes north, castle and bazaar) or the Bovilla Lake hike (40 minutes, the Gamti viewpoint). For a full day, Berat (about 2 hours each way), or the Komani Lake ferry and Shala River if you do not mind a 04:30 start. The city itself works well as a morning on foot or by e-bike.

About 2 hours' drive each way through olive country, so a Berat day trip from Tirana runs a full 9 hours door to door: castle quarter, Onufri Museum, a traditional lunch and a family winery visit, back in the capital by early evening.

Yes, but it is a 15-hour day with about nine hours of driving, leaving before dawn and back after dark. You get roughly five hours on the ground across the Blue Eye, Ksamil and Saranda. If you have two spare nights, basing yourself in Saranda and doing the south from there is more relaxed and you will see more.

Holta Canyon and Banja Lake is the standout in summer: cold canyon water and a lake swim, about two hours inland. Bovilla Lake, Kruja and Berat all run with hotel pickup on the Durrës coast, and the Sazan and Karaburun speedboat leaves from Durrës itself. The Roman amphitheatre in town is a good half day when you have had enough sun.
