The capital is loud, painted and fun. Walk Skanderbeg Square early, ride the Dajti Ekspres cable car for the mountain view, then spend the afternoon in Blloku (the once-forbidden party quarter), moving from café to café like a local. Eat at a traditional oda one night and a new-wave Albanian restaurant the next; the food scene has exploded.

The northern capital feels half-Italian: pastel façades, espresso bars, and more bicycles than anywhere in the Balkans. Rozafa Castle at sunset (lake on one side, mountains on the other) is among the best views in the country. Korça calls itself the city of serenades and takes its culture seriously: a handsome old bazaar, the country's first school, and proper seasons: snow in winter, cool plane-tree summers. It pairs perfectly with the Ohrid lakeside villages. Eat lakror (the local layered pie), drink the hometown beer, and spend your morning in the National Museum of Medieval Art; the icon collection is world class.
All four cities connect by decent roads and cheap buses. Two cities make a long weekend; all four make a full, varied week.
