The big Saranda boats do seven stops in seven hours, which works out at about twenty minutes in the water at each. This one does three in five, on a fourteen-seat boat, which means an hour at each place and time to snorkel rather than jump in and climb straight back out.

Itinerary

For reference only. Itineraries are subject to change.

  1. 09:30

    Board at Saranda port

Meet at the quay. Snorkels fitted and life jackets on, out past Lekursi within fifteen minutes.

  2. 10:15

    Kakome Bay

An hour anchored in the bay. Deep water, good visibility, and the cliffs going straight up behind you.

  3. 11:30

    Turtle Cave

Into the grotto under the headland, then a swim at the mouth of it where the light comes back through.

  4. 12:30

    Krorëz beach

An hour and a half on the pebbles. Umbrella up, drinks out, and nothing else on the beach at all.

  5. 14:15

    Back to Saranda

Alongside around 14:30. Late lunch on the promenade is the usual plan.

Experience & Highlights

  • Three stops with an hour at each, not twenty minutes
  • Kakome Bay and the deep blue drop-off
  • Inside the Turtle Cave by boat
  • An hour and a half at Krorëz beach
  • Fourteen passengers maximum

Full Description

Kakome is the first: a deep bay where the bottom falls away fast and the water goes ink blue. Then the Turtle Cave, a grotto on the headland named for the shape of the rock above the entrance, big enough for the boat to go inside and quiet enough to hear the swell move through it.

Krorëz last and longest. White pebbles, no road, nothing there. We bring an umbrella and cold drinks and you get an hour and a half. Back in Saranda by half past two.

What's included

  • Five-hour boat trip with skipper and guide
  • Snorkelling masks and life jackets
  • Cold drinks, water and fresh fruit
  • Beach umbrella at Krorëz

Not included

  • Hotel pickup
  • Lunch
  • Alcoholic drinks
  • Towels

Good to know

  • Fourteen passengers maximum, so there is room on deck and in the water.
  • Two departures daily in July and August, 09:30 and 15:00. The afternoon one gets better light in the cave.
  • Runs May through October and cancels in rough seas with a full refund.
  • Half the deck is shaded. Bring a hat and sunscreen for the rest.

Good questions, honest answers

What is the Turtle Cave near Saranda?

A sea grotto on the headland north of Kakome, named for the shape of the rock above its mouth. It is deep enough to take a small boat inside and the light coming back through the entrance is the reason most people take the afternoon departure.

Is this better than the seven-stop boat tour?

Different. This one gets you an hour at each of three places on a fourteen-seat boat. The seven-stop is a full day, includes lunch, and covers more coast with shorter stops. If you like being in the water, take this one.

How do I get to Krorëz beach without a boat?

You do not, realistically. There is a rough track down from the main road that needs a 4x4 and a lot of commitment, and no facilities at the bottom. Almost everyone on that beach arrived by boat.
