Tirana has built a surprising amount of bike lane in the last decade and the city is flat, so covering it on two wheels gets you three times the ground a walking tour does. We ride about 20 kilometres at an easy pace with frequent stops.

Itinerary

For reference only. Itineraries are subject to change.

  1. 09:30

    Fitting and a practice lap

Meet at our base near the boulevard. Saddle height, a quick lesson on the e-bike assist, and a lap of the quiet block to get comfortable.

  2. 10:00

    The boulevard and the Pyramid

South down the Italian axis past the ministries and the university, with a stop at the Pyramid.

  3. 10:40

    Grand Park and the lake

Into the park and round the artificial lake, past the amphitheatre and the church on the far shore.

  4. 11:30

    The eastern edge

Out to where the streets stop and Dajti starts, with the city laid out behind you. The one real climb, and the motor does it.

  5. 12:15

    Blloku and the New Bazaar

Back in through the old Politburo quarter, then Pazari i Ri for a coffee before we return the bikes.

Experience & Highlights

  • About 20 km on protected lanes and park paths
  • The artificial lake and the Grand Park loop
  • Blloku, the boulevard and the ministry quarter
  • E-bikes as standard, so the hills do not matter
  • Small groups, maximum eight riders

Full Description

The route runs down the boulevard, into the Grand Park and around the artificial lake, out to the eastern edge where the city runs into the foot of Dajti, and back in through Blloku. You see the parts of Tirana locals use: the lakeside path on a Saturday morning, the outdoor gyms, the cafés that are full at 11am on a weekday.

E-bikes are the default and they make the two short climbs irrelevant. If you would rather have a standard bike, say so when you book and we will bring one. Helmets for everyone, and the guide rides at the back on the busy sections.

What's included

  • E-bike, helmet and lock
  • English-speaking cycling guide
  • Bottled water
  • Coffee stop at the New Bazaar

Not included

  • Hotel pickup (we start centrally)
  • Lunch
  • Standard bike swap (free, but tell us when booking)

Good to know

  • You need to be able to ride a bike. This is not a place to learn, though the e-bike does remove the effort.
  • Minimum age 14, and riders under 16 must be with an adult.
  • Maximum eight riders per guide. In July and August we run the 09:30 departure only, to stay ahead of the heat.
  • Runs year-round in dry weather. Heavy rain cancels and you are refunded in full.

Good questions, honest answers

Is Tirana safe to cycle in?

The centre is better than its reputation. Most of this route uses protected lanes, park paths and the lakeside loop, and the few sections on open road are quiet ones. The guide rides at the back through traffic so the group stays together.

Do I need to be fit for the e-bike tour?

No. The city is flat, the pace is easy, and the single climb on the eastern edge is exactly what the motor is for. If you can ride a bicycle at all you can do this.

Can I use a normal bike instead of an e-bike?

Yes, at no extra cost, but tell us when you book so we bring one. Most people take the e-bike, and in July and August almost everyone does.
